Through programs that serve the body, mind and soul,
The Salvation Army alleviates the symptoms of poverty,
then works to address the root issues.
Helping families believe in themselves
Our Transitional Living Center provides each family with an apartment while they work on ending their homelessness.
The Transitional Living Center (TLC) offers homeless families a safe, healthy environment and tools to create their new life.
Our Transitional Living Center provides each family with an apartment while they work on ending their homelessness.
Each family is expected to obtain and maintain employment, develop a savings account, work with case managers, and address the issues that led to homelessness. The families also attend on-site therapeutic counseling as needed. Other services offered include, but not limited to: parenting classes, life skills classes, career counseling and computer lab, weekly women's group and Bible study.
With extensive career counseling, the families find new, satisfying jobs, learn to budget and learn to save. Up to 85% of TLC residents move into independent housing after graduating the program. The program is up to one year in length.
The Salvation Army loves and supports these families, helps them to believe in themselves, and guides them to find the strength and talent within.
The Transitional Living Center is partially funded by The San Diego Housing Commission, Housing Trust Funds.
